TERMS OF REFERENCE

 

Where “the Organisation” is mentioned, it refers to the Organisation for Curative Hypnotherapists

 

Where “Member(s)” is mentioned, it refers to a person who belongs to the Organisation

 

Where “Other therapist(s)” is mentioned, it refers to a practitioner of any discipline or treatment who is not a Member of the Organisation

 

A MEMBER SHALL:

  1. Hold Membership of an acceptable/approved general hypnotherapy organisation.
  2.  

  3. Hold adequate Professional Indemnity Insurance acceptable to the Organisation.
  4.  

  5. Charge fairly for the treatment given.
  6.  

  7. Always maintain standards of the highest professional conduct.
  8.  

  9. Use the title of Membership MOCH or MOCH(Acc) only for use in activities directly related to the practice of Curative Hypnotherapy.
  10.  

  11. Conform to the rules and laws of society and shall not act in a criminal manner, whether or not related to their professional work.
  12.  

  13. Not debase the professional integrity and honour of Curative Hypnotherapy by performing any act of entertainment involving hypnosis, or pretence of hypnosis upon a public stage or any other public place, except as may be permitted by the Organisation and regarded by that body as fulfilling the requirements of the Organisation to educate and enlighten the public to the benefits of Hypnotherapy.

  15. Always practice Curative Hypnotherapy as defined by the Organisation with any patient who attends for this treatment and shall not attempt symptom suppression, whether by direct suggestion, visualisation or other means, unless Curative methods have failed and then only with the full agreement of the patient. Should any other therapy be used with a patient, the member must be properly trained/qualified in this area and hold the relevant insurance for its practice.

  17. Ensure that where a patient is referred by another Member, or any therapist in any other discipline, whether in the medical profession or not, the referee shall be advised, with the patients consent, at the conclusion of the treatment. Confidentiality will be respected (see clause 12).

  19. Refer a patient to another Member or to another therapist if the patient may benefit further or quicker by this action. The best interests of the patient will be taken into account at all times. Care will be taken to refer only to therapists who have standards and methods of treatment proven in practice. Confidentiality will be respected (see clause 12).

  21. Co-operate with other therapists and medical practitioners where it is deemed in the best interest of the patient, provided their consent is given. Confidentiality will be respected (see clause 12).

  23. Observe strict confidentiality about the patients and their treatment, unless written permission is received from the patient, or required by court order to divulge information of a confidential nature.

  25. Use their best endeavours to bring treatment to a successful conclusion in the minimum time consistent with the care necessary in Curative Hypnotherapy.

  27. Not entice patients from another Member.
  28.  

  29. Ensure that their personal conduct will not be derogatory to the reputation of the profession nor any individual Member or other therapist (for example, personal misuse or abuse of alcohol or drugs, dishonesty, libel, slander, indecent or violent behaviour).

  31. Not abuse professional privilege for personal reward or satisfaction.
  32.  

  33. Not professionally obstruct or publicly criticise other Members and Therapists.
  34.  

  35. Respect the fact that the treatment given in other therapies may be given in good faith, without necessarily agreeing with such treatment. (Any Member publicly disagreeing with other forms of treatment must state that it is their personal view and not necessarily that of the Organisation).

  37. Not use information from or about a named or identifiable patient for their own, or any other persons’, benefit or profit.
  38.  

  39. Not permit considerations of religion, nationality, race, politics, age, beliefs or social standing to influence their treatment of any patient.
  40.  

  41. Respect, in all cases, the rights, dignity and emotions of their patient.
  42.  

  43. Put the interests, health and wishes of the patient above all else, in so far as it is legal to do so.
  44.  

  45. Have the right to advertise their services as long as this advertising is within the current laws, but shall, on no account, advertise to refund money in the case of unsuccessful treatment. Advertising shall be accurate and although Curative Hypnotherapy may be advertised, no promise of a cure should ever be made either in advertisements or verbally.
  46.  

  47. Not, while acting as a Hypnotherapist, sell, endorse or promote the sale of goods or services in practice or accept commission on the sale of goods, either personally or as agents or employees, except as may be permitted by the Constitution of this Organisation.
