Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a state of relaxation in which you remain aware of everything and in control at all times.

How is Curative Hypnotherapy different from other kinds of hypnotherapy? The main difference is that rather than working on a specific symptom, CH aims to work on the CAUSE of that symptom. By a combination of relaxation (hypnosis) and logic, the treatment aims to uncover and then to correct the cause of a problem, thus enabling you to be completely and permanently free from it. Curative Hypnotherapy is comfortable, gentle and safe. There is no requirement for you to experience any unwanted emotions, relive any traumatic events from your past nor to experience any unpleasant or uncomfortable reaction to your treatment.

What is Lesserian™ Curative Hypnotherapy? In recent years many practitioners have incorporated the word "Curative" in their literature, although their use of hypnosis is not the same as that described above.

To mark the difference between those with basic qualifications and those practitioners who continue to increase their skills and knowledge for the benefit of their patients, the Lesserian™ trademark and tradename exist. A licensed therapist will be able to produce a copy of their licence on request.

For more information on the trademark and the standards required of those who are licensed to use it, please click here (new page will open)

Will I need any follow-up treatment? Once treatment has been completed successfully, your problem/ symptom will steadily diminish naturally and effortlessly, without any need for regular maintenance or top-up sessions.

Will I be asleep or unconscious? Will I feel ‘hypnotised’? During treatment, you will not be asleep or unconscious – you will be aware and in control at all times, just very relaxed.

How long does treatment take? While obviously each person is unique, on average, to complete treatment (ie, to locate and then correct the Cause of a problem) 7-12 sessions are required.

How much will treatment cost? Fees vary around the UK but you should expect to pay in the region of £40 / 70 per session. Anti-smoking treatment will cost in the region of £100-£190.

Are there any dangers or side-effects? Curative Hypnotherapy is a particularly safe form of treatment. If you were suffering from toothache, you would know that the safest course of action would be a visit to the dentist to get the underlying cause (the decay) treated. Curative Hypnotherapy is safe because it works in a similar way: It deals with the cause - and once that’s resolved, the symptom, just like that toothache, goes away on its own.

When do I stop taking medicines? You should continue to take your medication until you have agreed any changes to your current medical treatment with your doctor or hospital.

Could I be one of those people who can’t be hypnotised? Hypnosis isn’t something that can be done to someone. It is a natural state achieved by following the suggestions given to you by the therapist.

Anyone who has the ability to get engrossed in a film (to laugh or cry, even at fiction) can go along with treatment. Anyone who can distance themselves from a film (tell themselves it isn’t real, that the people are acting) can prevent themselves from being hypnotised.

It’s your choice – you have the ability – and if you choose to, you will be able to respond sufficiently for treatment to progress efficiently and effectively.

Is the treatment guaranteed? No therapist can offer a guaranteed outcome as much depends on your motivation and commitment to play your own part in the treatment, but the success rate for Curative Hypnotherapy is extremely high as you will be guided step-by-step by your therapist.
